Anna was born to a Japanese mother and an American father. In an interview while attending an American anime convention, Anna said her parents divorced during her childhood years and as a result, she did not see her father often. Even though many of her song lyrics are in understandable English, she is not entirely fluent; she has said she could manage in simple conversation but anything over that is difficult.
Despite her growing number of movie roles, Anna has stated she prefers singing to acting. She's quite the actress though (I'm not just saying this because I'm biased XD), and said after production of Shimotsuma Monogatari (in which she played yanki Ichigo) was over, she would act like her character at home and her mother told her to watch her language.
On the North American release of the film Shimotsuma Monogatari, you can watch Anna's video for "Taste My Skin," despite the song having nothing to do with the film.
As of June 2008, Anna has won five awards for her acting, mostly for her role in Shimotsuma Monogatari.
