...one helluvan awesome actress. Born Katherine Sian Moennig (pronounced like "mennig") on December 29th, 1976, Kate has been acting and modeling since she was 18. She moved from Philadelphia to New York City to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. When she was in her mid-20s, Kate landed her first major role as Jacqueline "Jake" Pratt in the WB tv show "Young Americans". In the series, Jacqueline enters an all-boys school by passing as a boy ("Jake") but falls in love with the Dean's son. After the show ended, she had a part as MTF Cheryl Avery in an episode of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". Not until 2004, though, did Kate finally get her big break. She has played the part of Shane McCutcheon in the Showtime series "The L Word", a lesbian who breaks hearts left and right until meeting Carmen (played by Sarah Shahi).
