Mirai made her debut in 2000 with minor bit parts in Japanese dramas, but not until 2005 was she noticed when she starred in the drama "Jyoou no Kyoushitsu" (The Queen's Classroom), an 11-episode-long program about a sixth grade class with a devil for a teacher. Mirai starred as Kazumi, a girl in the class who simply wanted to be friends with everyone and made several efforts to unite the class together against their harsh teacher. Whether she was leading a classroom uprising, doing her trademark "teehee!", or singing karaoke while wearing an afro wig, Mirai stole viewers' hearts left and right.
From October to December of 2006, fans could tune in to watch Mirai in a much more mature role in the drama "14sai no Haha" (14-year-old Mother) as Miki, a teenager who becomes pregnant at the age of 14.
"Mirai" means "future" in Japanese, and Shida Mirai is certainly Japan's shining star of the future. Mirai has already been in several dramas and films already, and she's just beginning. Look for more great achievements to come!
