The Story of NANA

NANA is a manga by Yazawa Ai that was made into a movie in 2005. While the manga runs 18 volumes and is still going, the movie covered only the first five volumes. NANA tells the stories of two girls - trendy cutie Komatsu Nana (played by Miyazaki Aoi) and punk rocker Oosaki Nana (Nakashima Mika). Their personalities contrast highly, but they share the same name. The two meet by chance on the train to Tokyo and hit it off almost immediately, but don't plan on meeting again after parting ways. However, fate has something else in store for both Nanas and the story truly begins...

NANA has been licensed by Viz and is published in the English shoujo manga phonebook "Shojo Beat," on newstands and in bookstores near you. There are other means of reading NANA in the "Extras" section of this site.

In 2006, a sequel to the first film was released with a few cast changes; "NANA 2" did not fare as well as its predecessor, and no other sequels have been planned.
