The Powerpuff Girls

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girl. But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: Chemical X! Thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born! Using their ultra super powers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil!

The Powerpuff Girls is a cartoon on Cartoon Network. It ran for six seasons, debuting officially in 1998 and ending its run in 2005. The cartoon is about the lives of three sisters in kindergarten with superpowers, created by Professor Utonium. The three sisters, Blossom (above seen center), Bubbles (left), and Buttercup (right) are each very different from each other but are all needed in fights to succeed.

The show originated from a short by Craig McCracken titled "The Whoopass Girls in a Sticky situation" in 1992, but to be able to market to a family audience the name was changed to "The Powerpuff Girls."

The cartoon was extremely popular and successful in the USA, receiving a wide range of merchandising and its own feature-length film. Its success reached to overseas as well; in April 2005 a Japanese anime version ("Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z") was announced, running from July 2006 to June 2007. A manga based on the anime also began to be published at this time and continues to print new adventures for the Japanese counterparts of the girls.

Although the cartoon no longer airs on Cartoon Network, fans can catch some their favorite episodes on DVD releases and the internet.
